Speak and Grow Rich

Think and Grow Rich is the most talked about personal development book ever written. While Napoleon Hill discussed 13 concepts in it, three stand out more than any other: the mastermind, a white-hot passion and action. Were he alive today, I’m sure he’d have written a follow-up to it entitled “Speak and Grow Rich” due to the impact YouTube has had on our society and culture. We connect with people we can see and hear. Seeing something written on the page is one thing, but for maximum impact, nothing beats visual.

The power of masterminds has been well-documented. As my mentor, Jim Rohn, used to say, “We are the combined of our five closest friends.” I refer to this in my first book, iSucceed, as the birds-of-a-feather phenomenon. Charlie Tremendous Jones says this “You will be in five years the sum total of the books you read and the people you are around.” Sounds simplistic, but if you’re not happy with where you are right now financially, emotionally, physically or emotionally, the fastest way to change it would be to get some new friends. Our friends influence us in so many ways, from our language to our beliefs to our habits.

In the 20th century if you came from a small town it might have been hard to find the right kind of people to associate yourselves with. But with the Internet, social media and smartphones, there is no limit to the people we can learn from. I’ve been lucky enough to have studied from some of the best marketers, copywriters, personal development speakers and thought leaders in the world, from the comfort of my own living room. Programs such as “Magnetic Marketing,” “Expert’s Academy,” and the “One-Bite Time Management System” allow us to learn from the best without having to travel across the country or overseas.

Thanks to social media, I was able to attend the uber-exclusive Joint Venture Business Bootcamp by Sohail Khan as well as be an author alongside the likes of Kyle Wilson, Jim Rohn’s 18-year business partner and founder of Jim Rohn International, and two-time memory champion Ron White in the bestselling book The One Thing that Changed Everything. The opportunities exist for those willing to reach out. A great book that teaches how to approach influencers is The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann.

Today’s world is all about giving, which is precisely what YouTubers are doing. Giving with no guarantee of a reward. Mathematicians teach algebra and geometry. Linguists and teachers share tips on how to learn a foreign language. No matter your hobby or field of study, you’ll find some amazing stuff there, for the grand total of zip.

People all over the world have turned their hobbies into a business thanks to YouTube. Kids have earned hundreds of thousands reviewing toys. Video gamers have huge followings which they can monetize in numerous ways. Me, I’ve decided to get back into video especially on LinkedIn because that’s where my audience is. If you want to hear more about productivity, personal development and my life in Japan, be sure to add me.

So the question becomes this – what do you have to offer the world?
